Baseball Game Preview: St. Charles West Warriors vs. St. Dominic Crusaders

The St. Charles West Warriors will square off against the St. Dominic Crusaders at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last four games St. Charles West has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Wednesday, St. Charles West sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Winfield. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win St. Charles West has posted against Winfield since March 29, 2023.

Meanwhile, St. Dominic waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Statesmen. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Crusaders have posted since March 31st.

Chase Spurgeon looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Christopher Eggering was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolt Hopper, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

St. Dominic pushed their record up to 18-6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for St. Charles West, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

St. Charles West might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from St. Dominic in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
