Football Recap: Donovan Catholic Falls to Kingsway in First Game of Season

Donovan Catholic unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 20-7 to the Kingsway Dragons on Thursday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Donovan Catholic lost, don't look at Kahden Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 119 yards and one score on only 14 carries, and also threw for 137 yards on 16 of 29 attempts. A healthy portion of Davis' aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Aidan Kelly.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere two yards per carry. While one picked up at least eight total tackles, Diondre Foendoe stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made eight total tackles. Donovan Catholic didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.9.

Donovan Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 48-35 defeat against Holmdel on the 5th. As for Kingsway, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 26-21 loss against Camden on the 5th.
