Softball Recap: Jac-Cen-Del Eagles vs. Waldron Mohawks

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Jac-Cen-Del had no problem doing just that on Monday. Everything went their way against the Waldron Mohawks as they made off with a 13-4 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for Jac-Cen-Del as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Bailey Groth made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Groth was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlynn Moorman, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Abbie Schmidt was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

On Waldron's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Benson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and a triple. Benson has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Breanna Barton, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Jac-Cen-Del will challenge Oldenburg Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oldenburg Academy is coming into the matchup with eight straight wins on the road, so Jac-Cen-Del will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Waldron does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
