Softball Recap: Willow Canyon Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canyon View, Willow Canyon was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Centennial Coyotes by a score of 9-5. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Coyotes recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Easton Spriggs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mataya Olson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Bella Mora, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Willow Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centennial only posted a batting average of .259.

Willow Canyon's record now sits at 16-8-1. As for Centennial, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 15-9-1.

Willow Canyon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Coyotes: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
