Softball Recap: Western Christian Fighting Lancers vs. La Quinta Blackhawks

After flying high against Palm Desert on Friday, Western Christian came back down to earth. The Western Christian Fighting Lancers lost 14-4 to the La Quinta Blackhawks on Saturday. The Fighting Lancers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Blackhawks from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Saraiah Quiroz was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Sofia Prentice was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Savannah Lugo, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Western Christian now has a losing record of 4-5. As for La Quinta, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Christian will head out to face off against Ganesha at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Western Christian has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for La Quinta, they will venture away from home to take on Palm Desert at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
