Softball Recap: Ferndale's Win Ends Seven-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Saturday. Ferndale put the hurt on Calistoga with a sharp 11-1 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what Ferndale needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Olivia Gossi made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Gossi was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Ferndale got a big performance out of Randi Rice, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Rice also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Yajaira Cantu-Mendez, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Ferndale's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2. As for Calistoga, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Ferndale will venture away from home to face off against Trinity at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ferndale's pitchers better be ready for this one: Trinity has averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Calistoga, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Technology at 4:00 p.m. Calistoga is facing Technology at the right time seeing as Technology is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
