Football Recap: Hartington-Newcastle Skates Past Lutheran-Northeast with Ease

Hartington-Newcastle put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles to the tune of 58-22. With the Wildcats ahead 37-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Hartington-Newcastle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jason Heimes led the charge by rushing for 163 yards and three scores. Heimes is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 149 every time he's taken the field this season. Carter Kelly also helped out with an impressive 98 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hartington-Newcastle was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 312 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 210 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Hartington-Newcastle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brayden Lammers and Heimes. Heimes got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Lutheran-Northeast lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gavin Feddern, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. He was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 65 yards. Cole McGregor was another key player, throwing for 148 yards and three touchdowns.

Hartington-Newcastle's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Lutheran-Northeast, they dropped their record down to 1-2 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Hartington-Newcastle and Lutheran-Northeast will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Wildcats will face off against rival Niobrara/Verdigre at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lutheran-Northeast is set to challenge their familiar foe Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
