Baseball Recap: Crab Orchard Comes Up Short

Crab Orchard had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it 15. They lost 9-2 to the Hardin County Cougars. The Trojans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Fisher Watts put in work no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Hardin County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Hardin County's side, Nate Massie was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Martin, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Crab Orchard wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 11-0 loss against Galatia/Thompsonville on the 24th. As for Hardin County, they will take on Agape Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
