Basketball Recap: Heights Takes a Loss

If Heights was riding high fresh off their 64-13 takedown of Cesar E. Chavez last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Heights Bulldogs lost to the Lamar Texans on the road by a 45-27 margin on Saturday. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Texans earlier this season, when they won 53-49.

Despite the loss, Heights still got an impressive performance from Jazmyne Gilbert, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Gilbert has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last 11 times she's played.

Even though they lost, Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Phoenix Sneed, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards for Lamar. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariadni Michael, who posted ten points.

Heights' record is now 10-14. As for Lamar, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Bellaire the next time they take the court. Heights will host Bellaire at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while Lamar will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
