Volleyball Game Preview: Pueblo County Hornets vs. Lamar Thunder

After both having extra time off, the Pueblo County Hornets and the Lamar Thunder will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Lamar will be up against a hot Pueblo County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Hornets blew past Pueblo Centennial 3-0 on Tuesday.

Pueblo County walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-17, 25-18.

Meanwhile, Lamar got the win against Atlas Preparatory School on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0. The win continues a trend for the Thunder in their matchups with the Gryphons: they've now won eight in a row.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Lamar took every set by at least ten points. The final score came out to 25-3, 25-7, 25-15.

Lamar's victory bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Pueblo County, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Pueblo County has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 11.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Pueblo County came up short against Lamar in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 3-1. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
