Volleyball Recap: Branson Comes Up Short

Branson was the 3-2 winner over Mt. Vernon when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Pirates fell 2-0 to the Mountaineers on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Branson still got an impressive performance from Erinn Swofford, who had 20 assists and three digs. Swofford has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more assists the last 60 times she's played.

Among those leading the charge was Averee Swillum, who had 11 digs.

Branson's loss dropped their record down to 16-11-6. As for Mt. Vernon, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-6-2.

Branson and Mt. Vernon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Pirates (ranked 91st) will meet Bolivar (ranked 240th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon will challenge Aurora at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (115 vs. 347).
