Basketball Recap: Garfield Falls to Ellet in First Game of Season

Garfield kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They came up short against the Ellet Orangemen, falling 54-31. The Rams have struggled against the Orangemen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

It was another big night for Caitlyn Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds for Ellet. Holmes has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Royalty Crooks, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Ellet pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Garfield will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Ellet at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. As for Ellet, they will face off against East at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Ellet is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season.
