Baseball Recap: Lovington Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Lovington extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 10-16. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 victory over the Portales Rams. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since May 2, 2025.

Jude Madrid made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. Lovington is 10-3 when Madrid posts two or more runs, but 0-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Dallas Barrera was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Sepulveda, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.

Lovington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Portales, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 7th.

On Portales' side, Adam Duran stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jacoby Bamforth, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Lovington will face off against Artesia on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Portales does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
