Softball Recap: Gretna Find Success

Gretna's game back in March was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Appomattox County Raiders by a score of 5-2. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alyssa Keesee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Gretna's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Morris, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That hit marked the first that Morris got this season.

Gretna's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Appomattox County, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gretna will venture away from home to take on Chatham at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Appomattox County, they will take on Buckingham at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
