Basketball Recap: Monte Alto Comes Up Short

Monte Alto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 35-24 to Vanguard Academy Beethoven. The Blue Devil were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Vanguard Academy Beethoven apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vanguard Academy Beethoven to victory, but perhaps none more so than Karla Garza, who posted nine points and six steals. Vanguard Academy Beethoven is 3-1 when Garza posts three or more steals, but 1-4 otherwise. Monique Garcia was another key player, putting up 11 points and five steals.

Monte Alto's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Vanguard Academy Beethoven, their record now sits at 4-5.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Monte Alto is set to square off against their familiar foe IDEA College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on the 19th. Meanwhile, Vanguard Academy Beethoven will face off against rival IDEA Edinburg College Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Garcia and Angie Hernandez.
