Basketball Recap: Kirbyville Comes Up Short

Kirbyville won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were outmatched by the Buna Cougars and fell 71-34. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1212th, while the Cougars are ranked 595th).

Buna was led to victory by Brynn Branch and Jaiden Epps. Branch posted 19 points and six steals, while Epps dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Epps a new career-high. Harlee Everett was another key player, going 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points.

Kirbyville dropped their record down to 2-15 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Buna, they moved to 18-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Kirbyville has already played their next match (against East Chambers), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Buna Cougars face off against the Anahuac Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Buna is facing Anahuac at the right time seeing as Anahuac is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
