Baseball Recap: Hollins Takes a Loss

Hollins fell victim to East Lake and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-0. The Royals haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Riley McDonald put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases.

In other pitching news, Hollins got a good showing from Kyle Morrill, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Morrill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Hollins' defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for East Lake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Hollins and East Lake are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Royals will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Petersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for East Lake, they will take on Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.1, the Mustangs 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
