Softball Game Preview: South Point Red Raiders vs. Kings Mountain Mountaineers

South Point hasn't had much luck against Kings Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Red Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Mountaineers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

South Point took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cherryville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Raiders narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Ironmen 6-4.

Stella Absher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run.

In other batting news, Taylyn Ledford was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

South Point was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 11-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Kings Mountain had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Chargers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mountaineers have posted since May 23, 2024.

Kings Mountain's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for South Point, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
