Basketball Recap: R-S Central Comes Up Short

R-S Central was the 63-56 winner over Polk County when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The R-S Central Hilltoppers had to suffer through a 67-35 loss at the hands of the Polk County Wolverines. While losing is never fun, the Hilltoppers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Wolverines are ranked 69th).

When it comes to explaining why R-S Central lost on Tuesday, don't look at Lai Flack. Despite the final result, she posted 21 points. The game was Flack's third in a row with at least ten points. Niah Fritts was another key player, putting up eight points.

Polk County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bailey Staton led the charge by going 7 for 16 on her way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiera Littlejohn, who put up 12 points and seven boards.

R-S Central's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Polk County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-1.

R-S Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 42-30 victory against Patton on the 9th. Polk County has also already played their next contest (against Chase), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
