Basketball Game Preview: Maranatha Christian Eagles vs. Santa Fe Christian Eagles

The Maranatha Christian Eagles will head out to take on the Santa Fe Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Maranatha Christian will bounce into Friday's game after beating Bishop's, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. Maranatha Christian sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 win over Bishop's on Tuesday.

Maranatha Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Adrian Ownbey led the charge by going 7 of 13 en route to 16 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Ownbey is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dash Ekeroth, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 19 points.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe Christian posted their closest victory since January 6, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past La Jolla Country Day 58-56. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Santa Fe Christian's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Maranatha Christian, their record now sits at 11-8.

Maranatha Christian suffered a grim 76-54 defeat to Santa Fe Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Maranatha Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
