Softball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Holly Hill Academy

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Holly Hill Academy walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Marlboro Academy Dragons 11-10. The victory was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won five contests in a row.

Taylor Wright was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Burleson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kaley Bell, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Holly Hill Academy's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Marlboro Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Holly Hill Academy will take on King Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marlboro Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
