Basketball Game Preview: Richfield Tigers vs. Mackay Miners

Richfield is 2-8 against Mackay since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Richfield Tigers will get right back to it and host the Mackay Miners at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Richfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took down Hansen 47-30 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Malia Kent was the offensive standout of the game as she went 5 for 9 on her way to 19 points along with six boards and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Richfield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Holland, who posted six points and four steals.

Richfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mackay blew past Sho-Ban, posting a 59-30 victory.

Mackay has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Richfield, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.

Richfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Mackay in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 58-45. Will Richfield repeat their success, or does Mackay have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
