Basketball Game Preview: Marion Wildcats vs. Herrin Tigers

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Marion Wildcats take on the Herrin Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday... Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Marion will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Centralia, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Marion secured a 48-43 W over Centralia on Tuesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Orphans are ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Herrin hadn't done well against Massac County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Herrin managed a 42-37 win over Massac County. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Marion is also on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Herrin, their victory bumped their record up to 9-16.
