Softball Recap: Bangor Takes a Loss

Bangor dropped their record down to 10-4 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hermon Hawks by a score of 3-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rams of the 7-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Sophie Lynch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Hermon, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

On Hermon's side, Braelyn Wilcox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. Wilcox has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hermon's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Johnston, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Leah Walker was another, earning three runs and one stolen base.

Bangor and Hermon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Maine Rankings. The Rams (ranked eighth) will meet Brunswick (ranked 87th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hermon will square off against John Bapst Memorial at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (1 vs. 68).
