Blue Ridge and Show Low are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Yellow Jackets will host the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Blue Ridge is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Blue Ridge had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Holbrook on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets put the hurt on the Roadrunners with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Graesyn Kendzlic, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kaden Edgington, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Blue Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holbrook struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Show Low didn't have quite enough to beat Snowflake on Tuesday and fell 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by just one run.
Karter Alexander and Nick Hall did some serious damage despite the final result: Alexander scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Hall went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Jonathan Mackenzie was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Blue Ridge pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Show Low, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-8.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Blue Ridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Show Low struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Blue Ridge took their win against Show Low when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 17-6 score. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
