Baseball Recap: Gates Chili Takes a Loss

Gates Chili lost against Spencerport back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Spartans fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 2-1. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jaylen Givens put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Givens was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Givens wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Sweeney, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Sweeney has brought in this season.

Gates Chili's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Spencerport, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10.

Gates Chili and Spencerport could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 285th) will meet Webster Thomas (ranked 37th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Spencerport will challenge Churchville-Chili at 7:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (356 vs. 4).
