Softball Recap: Bloomer Takes a Loss

Bloomer dropped their record down to 11-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Stanley-Boyd Orioles by a score of 8-7. The Blackhawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Orioles earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

As for Stanley-Boyd, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch.

For Stanley-Boyd's part, Caitlen Ketterhagen spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. Ketterhagen has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kelly Lew, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Sikora, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.

Coming up, Bloomer will be playing in front of their home fans against Menomonie at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Stanley-Boyd, they will challenge McDonell Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
