Volleyball Recap: Wellsboro Starts Season with Win Against Canton

Wellsboro had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Canton Warriors with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hornets also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Wellsboro was led to victory by Ellie Largey and Maddy Cruttenden. Largey had 22 assists and two aces, while Cruttenden had six digs and one assist. Those 22 assists gave Largey a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Wellsboro was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wellsboro will take on rival Sayre at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Canton is set to challenge their familiar foe Athens at 6:00 p.m. on September 8.
