Basketball Preview: Hampton County Hurricanes vs. Barnwell Warhorses

Hampton County is 9-1 against the Warhorses since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Hampton County Hurricanes will be playing at home against the Barnwell Warhorses at 7:30 p.m. Hampton County will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.

Even though Woodland scored an imposing 70 points on Friday, Hampton County still came out on top. Hampton County snuck past the Wolverines with a 76-70 win.

Kavon Chisolm was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Xaviar Garvin, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Barnwell was the victim of a rough 54-34 defeat at the hands of the Wolverines on Monday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Barnwell in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now lost five in a row.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Vashahd Scofield, who scored 13 points. That was a full 38.2% of Barnwell's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Damahjai Devoe, who scored nine points.

Hampton County's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Barnwell, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Hampton County took their victory against the Warhorses in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 71-47. Does Hampton County have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warhorses turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
