Basketball Recap: Custer County Comes Up Short on the Road Against Swallows Charter Academy

Custer County had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Swallows Charter Academy Spartans by a score of 50-48 on Tuesday. The Bobcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Custer County still got an impressive performance from Grant Rusk, who went 9-for-18 on his way to 24 points and six steals. Another player making a difference was Kal Tunnell, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds.

Christian Garcia had an outrageously good game for Swallows Charter Academy as he dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Garcia is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Elias Garcia was another key player, putting up nine points.

Custer County will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lake City Community at 7:00 p.m. on the 13th. As for Swallows Charter Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-64 defeat against Pueblo Centennial on the 9th.
