Baseball Game Preview: Piedmont Panthers vs. Montgomery Central Timberwolves

The Piedmont Panthers will challenge the Montgomery Central Timberwolves at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery Central took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Piedmont, who comes in off a win.

Piedmont not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2025 (when they won 9-0). Everything went their way against Shelby as they made off with a 7-1 win.

Drake Covington made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Covington wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryson Greene, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Greene has posted over his last ten matchups. Colby Dawson was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Montgomery Central was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Central Davidson, falling 15-2.

Piedmont's victory bumped their record up to 2-17. As for Montgomery Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
