Baseball Recap: Liberty's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Liberty not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 17th. Everything went their way against the Monterey Plainsmen as the Liberty Patriots made off with an 11-5 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Patriots as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Cassler Wicks made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-5. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin McPherson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Levi Walker, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Liberty's record is now 4-6. As for Monterey, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 1-10-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, Liberty and Monterey will both be playing Chapin the next time they take the field. Liberty will head out to face Chapin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Monterey will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
