Recap: Wicksburg Panthers vs. Reeltown Rebels
The Wicksburg Panthers and the Reeltown Rebels squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Wicksburg Panthers had to settle for second. Wicksburg was the victim of a rough 34-14 defeat at the hands of Reeltown. While losing is never fun, Wicksburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Reeltown is ranked 70th).
Despite the loss, Wicksburg saw an underclassman step up: Mason Burkhardt rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 95 yards and a touchdown. Burkhardt is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Traylen Roberts was on fire for Reeltown: he rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Roberts' longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards. Reeltown also got help from Tae Martin who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Reeltown's defense and their ten sacks. Devin Bragg was especially locked on to Wicksburg's QB and sacked him 2.5 times.
Wicksburg has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Reeltown, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Wicksburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Reeltown will be playing in front of their home fans against Thorsby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Thorsby is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
