Softball Recap: Anderson Takes a Loss

Anderson had lost seven straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it eight. They came up short against the Lassen Grizzlies, falling 17-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cubs of the 13-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Anderson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caydence Dial, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Lassen, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Lassen's side, Shaylynn Cain was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Cain has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lassen let Delilah Delgado and Anarosa Rodriguez run wild. Delgado went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Delgado has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Patty Carvalho, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, Anderson will host Yreka at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cubs are facing the Miners at the right time seeing as the Miners are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Lassen, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-5 victory against Colusa on the 25th.
