Baseball Recap: Harding Academy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Harding Academy came into Thursday's matchup having lost ten straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Memphis Central Warriors 5-4 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since March 3rd.

Jordan Fisher was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leland Sammons, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Justin Barham was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Harding Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Harding Academy's record is now 2-10. As for Memphis Central, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Harding Academy will venture away from home to take on St. George's at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Memphis Central, they will head out to square off against Southwind at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
