Baseball Game Preview: Cimarron Bluejays vs. Hugoton Eagles

Cimarron and Hugoton are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Bluejays will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cimarron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Cimarron came out on top against Lakin on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Bluejays never let the Broncs get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bluejays in their matchups with the Broncs: they've now won seven in a row.

The result came thanks to Jesus Martinez's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Landon Charles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Cimarron is 5-1 when Charles posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-9 otherwise. Coulter Dohrmann was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Cimarron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Hugoton had just enough and edged out Lakin 7-6 on Thursday.

Cimarron's record now sits at 13-10. As for Hugoton, their record is now 8-12.

Everything went Cimarron's way against Hugoton when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Cimarron made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
