Warren Central and Metcalfe County are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Warren Central will square off against Metcalfe County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Warren Central comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Monday just wasn't the day for Warren Central's offense. They lost 13-0 to Todd County Central on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Dragons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Metcalfe County hadn't done well against Glasgow recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Metcalfe County put the hurt on Glasgow with a sharp 10-2 victory. The Hornets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 20, 2024.
Harper Hurt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. What's more, she gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Emma Groce was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of LeeElla Boles, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Groce wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Metcalfe County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glasgow only managed six hits.
Metcalfe County has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.0 runs this season. As for Warren Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Warren Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Metcalfe County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. Does Warren Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Metcalfe County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
