Football Game Preview: Lafayette Hornets vs. Williston Red Devils

After each having a week off, the Lafayette Hornets and the Williston Red Devils will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Lafayette is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Chipley two weeks ago. The Hornets and the Tigers were almost perfectly matched up, but the Hornets suffered a 21-20 loss. The Hornets' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

The losing side was boosted by Tywan K Williamson, who threw for 150 yards and three TDs. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending one pass.

Meanwhile, Williston came tearing into two weeks ago's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Greyhounds to the tune of 64-0. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 518th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lafayette better keep an eye on Omarian Walker. He was instrumental in Williston's win, rushing for 84 yards and a pair of scores, while also picking up 30 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Williston didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Maverick Jones and Kyson Chever.

Williston's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
