Softball Recap: Avenal Extends Winning Streak to Three

Avenal had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Tranquillity Tigers with a sharp 19-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-0 back in April.

Emma Morales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Lopez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Sabrina Rivas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Avenal always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Avenal's record is now 18-6-1. As for Tranquillity, they dropped their record down to 0-20 with the defeat, which was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season.

As of now, neither Avenal nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
