Baseball Recap: Lincoln-Way East Gets the Win

While Lincoln-Way East's victory against Yorkville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lincoln-Way East won by a run and slipped past Yorkville 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Griffins have posted since May 11, 2024.

Casey Mikrut was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Mikrut was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Jacob Baud and Jack Tamer dominated on the mound. Baud pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Tamer pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Baud has allowed since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, Lincoln-Way East's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Evan Riiff, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Lincoln-Way East has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.0 runs this season. As for Yorkville, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Lincoln-Way East will be playing at home against Wilmington at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Yorkville, they will head out to face off against Lemont at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
