Softball Game Preview: Crivitz Wolverines vs. Southern Door Eagles

The Crivitz Wolverines will head out to face off against the Southern Door Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Crivitz is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Wausaukee 14-7 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won six in a row.

Isabelle Danielczak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hattie Frievalt, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Wesolowski, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Crivitz kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Southern Door owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Kewaunee.

Madyson Counard was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Southern Door has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Crivitz, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-6.

Crivitz suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Southern Door in their previous matchup back in April of 2018. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
