Softball Recap: Southington Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Southington was feeling good fresh off their 14-0 takedown of Maloney last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blue Knights took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mercy Tigers on Tuesday.

Shelby Jordan spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Olivia Gombotz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Perugini, who went 2-for-6 with one triple.

Southington's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4. As for Mercy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Southington will square off against Plainville at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Mercy, they will welcome Shelton at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 2.5, the Gaels 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
