Softball Game Preview: Petaluma Trojans vs. Napa Grizzlies

Petaluma is 9-1 against Napa since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Trojans will host the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Petaluma has three straight victories, Napa has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Petaluma took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Vintage, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans skirted past the Crushers 3-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Lily Pardini spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Scarlett Fannin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Napa came up short against Casa Grande on Monday, falling 18-2.

Napa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Priscilla Morgado Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Petaluma's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Napa, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Napa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Petaluma has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Napa, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Petaluma's sizable advantage in that area, the Grizzlies will need to find a way to close that gap.

Petaluma took their victory against Napa in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 12-0 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
