Basketball Recap: Tri City Prep Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Tri City Prep Panthers took a blow against the Southwest Leadership Academy Rams, falling 67-23. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Rams are ranked 102nd).

Leading Southwest Leadership Academy to victory were Ayden Gonzales and Alijah Murphy. Gonzales posted 17 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, while Murphy went 6 of 15 on his way to 16 points along with seven boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Edgar Avila, who earned nine points and four steals.

Tri City Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Southwest Leadership Academy, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tri City Prep will square off against Gila Bend at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southwest Leadership Academy, they will take on Premier at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Southwest Leadership Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67 points per game this season.
