Baseball Game Preview: Vancleave Bulldogs vs. Laurel Golden Tornadoes

For the second straight game, Vancleave will face off against Laurel. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Golden Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vancleave has four straight wins, Laurel has 18 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Vancleave's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Laurel with a sharp 14-0 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Aidan Tapp made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Harper, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Cam Sherrod also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Vancleave always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Vancleave pushed their record up to 22-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Laurel, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-19.
