Basketball Game Preview: Highland Tech Rams vs. Bessemer City Yellow Jackets

Highland Tech is 2-8 against Bessemer City since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Highland Tech Rams will be playing at home against the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. Highland Tech is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season.

Highland Tech took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-35 victory over Cherryville. The Rams pushed the score to 44-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Ironmen cut but never quite recovered from.

Elijah Sherrill was his usual excellent self, going 7 of 16 en route to 16 points and eight assists. The game was his 19th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Coleman Schafer, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Bessemer City came up short against Burns on Tuesday and fell 93-84. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (58), the Yellow Jackets still had to take the loss.

Bessemer City dropped their record down to 10-6 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Highland Tech, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-8.

Highland Tech took their victory against Bessemer City in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 66-46. Will Highland Tech repeat their success, or does Bessemer City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
