It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Martin County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 53-52 win over the Washington County Panthers. For the Gators, this counts as revenge for the 87-67 victory the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Martin County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kamarion Larry led the charge by going 10 for 19 on his way to 23 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Larry a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Matthewson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards.

Martin County was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington County only racked up six assists.

Despite the loss, Washington County had strong showings from Brandon Carter Jr., who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Christian Phelps, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. Carter Jr. is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games he's played dating back to last season. Nai'Jai Carter was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Martin County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points over those games. As for Washington County, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-2.
