Softball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Providence's Winning Streak

Providence dropped their record down to 7-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Corydon Central Panthers, falling 17-5. The Pioneers were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Providence saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Presley Hegedus (2026), who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

As for Corydon Central, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.6 runs.

On Corydon Central's side, they let Addyson Branham and Rease Jones run wild. Branham went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Jones went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Branham has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Alford, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Providence and Corydon Central should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Pioneers (ranked 116th) will meet Paoli (ranked 263rd) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Corydon Central will square off against Jeffersonville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (41 vs. 251).
