Softball Recap: Octorara Area Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Octorara Area dropped their record down to 9-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Kennard-Dale Rams, falling 18-1. If the Braves were looking for revenge after losing 1-0 to the Rams when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Delaney Amole was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

As for Kennard-Dale, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Considering they have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Kennard-Dale's side, Taryn Ashenfelter made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Ashenfelter has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Argiro, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Fleming, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Octorara Area will take on Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kennard-Dale, they will square off against Middletown at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Raiders will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight.
