Softball Recap: Grant Lancers vs. Sylmar Spartans

Grant had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it 11. They lost 18-0 to the Sylmar Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 back in April.

As for Sylmar, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.1 runs.

For Sylmar's part, Cynthia Valadez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Valadez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Cristabel Carreon was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Brianna Cervacio was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.

Coincidentally, Grant and Sylmar will both be playing Canoga Park the next time they take the field. The Lancers will head out to face the Hunters at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Spartans will head out to face them at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
